What Lube Plate To Use With Curt Turning Point?

Updated 02/28/2025 | Published 02/26/2025

Question:

I have a Curt Turning point. It did not come with the LUBE PLATE. The dealer told me NOT to put grease or anything on the hitch. But - it is really wearing. Which lube plate is better? The black or white one? Also - is there a video of this being on the king pin and hitching? It looks like from the video reviews - you have to hold it on there when hitching. That has to be dangerous. Thanks.

Hey Gus, thanks for reaching out. All these lube plates are made of the same material, so if I were you, I would go with the Curt 10" Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Lube Plate # 16721. This will slide over the king pin and stay on by itself. You should not have to hold it in place by hand while hitching up. Sadly we do not have a video showing this, but the picture below shows an example of how the lube plate should stay on the kingpin by itself.

I looked at my TURNING POINT and hitch .. it does not look like I can fit a disc betwen my wedge on the turning point and the king pin .. there's very little room between the two. Is that correct ? You need something else to put on the turning point? I'm seeing rust where the turning point makes contact with the hitch. Is there a grease you recomment for this .. when you cannot use the lube plate ? Thanks.

@Gus You could use something like the LubriMatic White Lithium Grease # L11354 if the lube plate will not fit. Just try to use it sparingly or things can get messy.
