Which is Better to Protect Car on Car Hauler Rock Guard or Mud Flaps

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/14/2025

Question:

I have an 82 inch x 16 ft car hauler. I use a Chevy 2500 HD for towing. Which protection is best for hauling my Karmann Ghia: A mud flap or a rock guard on the trailer? Mainly on paved roads Thanks Jeff

Both would be most ideal but the rock guard on the trailer will do the best job at protecting the vehicles. For an easy set of mudflaps for your truck the Rock Tamers part # ERT00108 fit trucks easily by fitting over the shank of your ball mount. How long of a trip?

Hey Jeff, how long was your trip with the Karmann Ghia behind your Chevy 2500 HD? It’d be great to hear how the rock guard performed on those paved roads. Your update could make it easier for others hauling classic cars.
