Can I Use the Curt Rocker Ball with My Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler?

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/12/2025

Question:

Would the rockerball be a good match for a Reese Goosebox which has and airbag to smooth/dampen between the tow vehicle and an RV? Or would having an additional pivot point create ride problems since they both move in the forward/aft axis?

Hello Dave,

Great question. Unfortunately, you cannot use a RockerBall with a Reese Goose Box because the Goose Box requires a fixed gooseneck ball, while the RockerBall has a built-in pivot mechanism that could cause instability. The Goose Box already has an air ride system, and adding a second point of movement could lead to excessive play or potential uncoupling. Manufacturers warn against using cushioned or articulating hitch balls with the Goose Box, so it's best to stick with a standard 2-5/16" fixed gooseneck ball for safe towing like the Curt Multi-Fit Ball Kit w/ 4" Offset for Factory Gooseneck Hitches - 30K # C68ZV.

What kind of trailer are you pulling, trailer for fun, or trailer for work?

Hey Dave, how did things go with the fixed gooseneck ball setup for your Goose Box? Your results could really help others deciding between a cushioned and standard ball for their towing setup.
