120v To 12v Converter Needed To Power A 12v RV Fridge

Question:

Do you have a small-size 120V to 12V converter that is used to power 12V refrigerators being installed to replace gas/electric refrigerators? I see RecPro has one, but prefer to do business with you when possible. If you don’t carry it, would you please look at the one RecPro carries and assess it for use in your 12V refrigerator offerings?

Hey Shane,

We don't currently offer a small scale converter to power just the fridge like you're wanting. We offer larger power center converters for this purpose. If we're both looking at the same one then the converter would come with bare wires to splice your fridge to. If your 12v fridge needs to be hardwired then it would be all you need. If your fridge instead needs a cigarette lighter style 12v outlet then you'll want to pick up an outlet like part # FR36XD as well and wire the converter to it.

Typically, the power center is mounted right by the fridge so running some wires from your DC distribution panel to the new fridge shouldn't be an issue and would save you some money. Is yours located near the fridge? If it is you'll want to check if you have any open fuse ports on the DC distribution panel to ensure you can wire the fridge in. Did you already have a fridge picked out or are you still looking?

Thanks for the answer! My DC distribution panel isn’t close to the fridge, so running an upgraded wire wouldn’t be an easy task. I don’t have a 12V fridge selected yet, but leaning toward your Furrion 10 cu ft. Your description of it is good, but conflicts with the accompanying reviews concerning lockable doors for travel. My suggestion is to make the small 120V to 12V converter available, clarify the Furrion offering has lockable doors, and make a short video installing the fridge using the converter.

@ShaneS The Furrion Arctic RV Refrigerator with Freezer # FR77TD would need to be hardwired so it would work with converter you were looking at but you'd still need to run a ground wire down from the fridge to the frame of the trailer. The doors on this fridge do not lock so you would need to pick up a fridge door lock or child safety lock from your local hardware/department store to guarantee that the doors can't open while travelling. I'd love to shoot a video for this fridge as well as the rest of the ones we carry but it's pretty rare that we get someone's RV in for this type of install. If you wouldn't mind making the trek over to our facility in Wentzville, MO I could personally install the fridge on camera and run the wiring to the power center and cutout the cost of the converter. Would that be something you'd be interested in?
