Will Dexter Coupler T4845000 Bind Up At Severe Angles?
Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/02/2025 >
Question:
I am building a tilt tongue for my glider trailer to assist in loading. With a 2” ball installed in this coupler what angle will the ball make fore and aft from the normal level before the coupler binds on the neck of the ball

Hey Neal, that is an interesting question. There is no specific angle I can give you since this is not something we have ever tested to see. Generally, normal on-road driving conditions will not be severe enough angles to cause the coupler to bind. We do not hear any common complaints about these things binding so usually that is not something you need to worry about. I wish I could give you a more concrete number here, but this is just not something we have any numbers/data on.
Feel free to reach out if there is anything else I can do.

Hey Neal, I'm curious how your tilt tongue setup for the glider trailer turned out with that coupler. Did you notice any binding when the trailer tilted during loading? Your results could help others working on similar trailer designs.
