What Suspension Components Typically Get Replaced with Leaf Springs on Trailer Suspension
Updated 02/03/2025 | Published 01/30/2025 >
Question:
I have a travel trailer that the leaf springs are starting to wear out in. I have double eye leaf springs with a suspension kit like https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Suspension-Parts/etrailer/e99ZR.html. This is stock presently, not after market. I need to raise the trailer this weekend and unload the leaf springs to I can get some accurate measurements for new springs and leaf spring mounting hardware. My question is in your professional opinions, what other hardware should I replace when doing leaf springs u-bolts and plates and hardware, shackle straps and hardware? I assume right now that there is no reason to replace the actual equalizer and the hardware that mounts it to the frame. Thank you.

Great question William, basically it just comes down to the condition of everything. You can sometimes get away with just replacing the springs but you'd want to check out all of the moving components and see what is good and what isn't. It could be you just need new spring bolts but you also might need shackles as well. If you are out there measuring the spring with a load off of it just go over all of the components and it'll be pretty obvious.
