What is the Difference Between the Hydrastar HBA16 and HS381-8067?
Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/12/2025 >
Question:
The Hydrastar HS381-8067 appears to have the same specs as the HBA16. I have a 24ft travel trailer, 5200lb axles. Considering the switch to disk. Any reason not to save $100 and get the HS381 instead of the HBA16? Thanks

Hello Len,
That is a great question, and the answer is pretty simple. They are pretty much the same, the only difference is that the # HS381-8067 is marine grade so it has an upgraded marine-grade gasket, and the hardware is stainless steal. So with that being said, you can save the hundred dollars! I would say with those kind of savings you should treat yourself to a steak dinner.
You said you are thinking of making the change to disc brakes, you won't regret it. If you want to send me over the information on your trailer (how many axles, and what they are rated for) I am happy to get a list of parts for you. If your axle is 8k or larger I would need a picture of your axle tag.

Hey Len, how did things go with the Hydrastar actuator on your 24‑foot trailer? Once you made the switch to disc brakes, did the setup perform the way you hoped? Your update could make it easier for others thinking about the same upgrade.
