Question:
On a 2024 GM 1500 4x4, there is an option to omit the steering wheel lock. Does this eliminate the need to disconnect the battery?

Hey Chuck, when it comes to the flat towing procedures for a vehicle we have to recommend you follow the vehicle manufacturer instructions that are outlined in the owners manual. Reason being there's a lot of potential damage that can occur if something isn't done correctly and only the manufacturer can recommend doing something different since it's their warranty on the vehicle that would need to be honored. So what you can do is check directly with a GM dealer and see if they would give you the green light to omit the steering lock in exchange for disconnecting the battery. It would certainly seem like that would be all you'd need to do BUT if it was that simple they probably would have given that as an option and newer vehicles have so much going on with them there's probably more to it than that.
