Hey Andrew, thanks for reaching out. In this scenario you will be ok to go with a lower rated leaf spring for your 3,500 lb axle. The most important thing to keep in mind here is that using a lower rated spring will reduce the capacity of the trailer. With two 1,300 lb springs your capacity would be more like 2,600 lbs so if you never exceed 2,000 lbs you will be just fine. Generally, we do recommend using 1,750 lb leaf springs like part # DX23CR for a 3,500 lb axle but as long as you are under 2,000 GVWR you will be good.

Hey Andrew, how did things turn out with the 1,300 lb leaf springs on your 3,500 lb axle? Did the setup handle the 2,000 lb load the way you expected? Your results could help others planning a similar trailer build.
