Will The Replacement Wheel Holder 7521568001 Fit A SportRack 2 Bike Rack

Updated 12/23/2024 | Published 12/06/2024

Question:

I need to replace 2 rear tire holders for a SportsRack, 2 bike, hitch rack. My rear tire holders look very similar to p/n 7521568001, but mine are not fat tire holders. I can send photos of my existing holders if that will help. Thank you

Hello Bobby, thanks for reaching out. The Replacement Wheel Holder # 7521568001 is made for the Thule T1 and T2 Classic, so I cannot say with certainty that it will work with your SportRack bike rack. Thule used to make the SportRack racks back in the day, so some of the parts may be similar. What I can tell you is the # 7521568001 wheel holder fits onto a 2-1/8"x1-5/8" crossmember. I edited a picture to help illustrate. I suggest you compare this to your rack to see if it will fit.

Hello Jesse, thanks for getting back to me. The dimensions you detailed match the rear tire holders that I have, they look nearly identical. Can you let me know the inside dimension at the top of the “V”. My existing holders measure 3 1/4”. Is there any way for me to attach a photo to clarify?

@BobbyD The wheel holder mentioned above is for fat tire bikes so the "V" part is about 5" wide. Sounds like it will be a bit wider than what you have now but it will work great for really any tire 5" wide or less.

@JesseM Hi Jesse, Ive looked on the etrailer site for a replacement strap that would fit in my existing rear tire holder. Not sure if that is an option? The strap that looks the most similar to mine is the Yakima Y23KR. I don’t think the fixed end is wide enough to fit into the holders I have. Do you have dimensions for this strap? I’m thinking I may just have to purchase some type of Velcro strap to just tie down the wheels if I want to use my existing rear tire holders. I appreciate your help. Bobby

@Bobby Hey Bobby, I don't have dimensions for the strap on hand, but I can work on getting them from Yakima. That said, I really can't recommend trying to piece together replacement parts from different brands like this. Even if the strap dimensions were the same, there would be no warranty or guarantee that things will work together correctly. A lot of the SportRack stuff is no longer made so we get asked about them a lot. From a safety standpoint it really is not recommended to use a Yakima strap on anything other than an approved Yakima rack. I would hate for you to try it and it doesnt work and something happens to your bikes. Replacing the whole wheel cradle assembly would be better. Or, if parts on your SportRack are starting to fail, it may be time for a new rack.
