Does Hydraulic Fluid Leaking From A Jack Mean The Seals Are Bad

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/27/2024

Question:

I have A 12000 LB HYDRAULIC GOOSENECK JACK THAT HAS STARTED LEAKING OIL OUT OF THE SQUARE TUBING. DOES THAT MEAN WE NEED TO CHANGE SEALS OR WHAT

Hi Andy,

A Jack leaking fluid would indicate that you either have a worn seal or that cylinder itself is broken. Very few manufacturers will offer replacement seals but if you can see what the brand and model of the jack is we can reach out to the manufacturer and see if that's an option. If not, you can see if there's a local fabrication company that works on hydraulic cylinders and can repair the jack.

The final option would be to just replace the jack entirely, in which case I'd like to know a little bit more about your setup so that I can recommend the best jack for the job.

Hey Andy, what ended up happening with your 12,000‑lb hydraulic gooseneck jack leak? Were you able to find out if the seals could be replaced or if a full jack swap was needed? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same issue.
