Does The 2019 Toyota Tundra Allow For Plug and Play Trailer Brake Controller?

Updated 03/04/2025 | Published 11/16/2024

Question:

Do you have the plug in location under the dash for a 2019 Toyota Tundra for the brake controller

If your 2019 Toyota Tundra includes the factory trailer wiring for a trailer it will have a connector under the dash for a Trailer Brake Controller # RED72CR. This Controller # RED72CR does come with the connector for this application. The small connector is taped into the harness behind the left side kick panel.

If you do not have the factory trailer wiring you will want our Wiring Kit # ETBC7, a Brake Controller # RED52VR and a 4-Way # HM11141835.

You say this fits a 2019 tundra with factory trailer wiring, but when I click on the highlighted part# in your statement, it goes to a page showing the controller but says it will not fit 2019 Tundra. Am confused.

@Darin Hello Darin, I see your confusion as I was confused myself. I even jumped over to the Redarc website and their information is also not correct. So I took a stroll out to the warehouse, on both our site and Redarc's site the Redarc Tow-Pro Trail Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness # RED64UR is a confirmed fit, it's not the brake controller itself that is the custom fit it is the vehicle specific wiring. I compared the wiring harness for both the # RED64UR and the # RED72CR and they are exactly the same. I figured Bud's answer was correct, but never hurts to double check. The # RED72CR will be the correct one for your 2019 Toyota Tundra. I will be reaching out to Redarc as well as our product writers to get the information corrected. What kind of trailer will you be hauling with your Tundra?

@KateF I have various trailers, all with ele brakes. The truck is a 2019 Toyota, Tundra TRD Pro. It has the factory brake controller but it won't recognize the trailer when hooked up. Seems that is a problem with that year, have read you have to go to dealer and have a refresh done, some say it works, some say problems still exist. Was going to buy an after market controller and wire at the dash but there is no harness for 2019 Tundra. I can do it the old way , cut and splice all connections but not sure about the signal wire

@Darin Hey Darin, unfortunately it isn't just the Tundra that has that issue. All the trucks OEM brake controllers have issues, Ford, Dodge, GM, etc. I was able to find a chart for the colors, you might want to use something like a Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to confirm the functions. I cannot add a picture to a comment, so I will send you an email with the chart and information that I found.
