Should 2019 Ford F-150 Air Bags or Weight Distribution System be Setup First When Used Together

Published 10/31/2024

Question:

I have F150 and tow a camper with a wd bar, and added the 5000 air bags because the truck had 3 inches of squat even with the WD. So how much air to I put in the bags before hooking up the wd? Or do I hook everything up and then level out with the air bags?

Hey Mark, thanks for reaching out!

In order to use the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57385 on your 2019 Ford F-150 you'll want to actually refer to the instructions for your weight distribution system. Generally, weight distribution manufacturers say to level everything out with the air bags and then install their system, but I have seen an instance or two where the reverse was recommended so it's always best to check with your instructions.

It's also worth noting that you might want to check the rating of your WD system and compare it to your trailer weight. A properly rated WD system will have a tongue weight range that your loaded trailer tongue weight falls in the middle of. If your trailer tongue weight is higher than the WD tongue weight range then that would be a contributing factor for your application.
