Is the Replacement Plunger Door Sensor w/ Striker Plates a Normally Open or Closed Switch

Question:

Is this a normally open or normally closed switch? When the button is pushed in by the door are the contacts open or closed?

Hey Bruce, I spoke with Lippert and they ensured me that the Replacement Plunger Door Sensor with Striker Plates for Kwikee Electric RV Steps # LC379388 is a normally closed switch.

Bryce, I ordered the switch you recommended and it arrived today. Problem is it is the same as the one I have with normally open contacts. The contacts are open until the button is depressed. The stamped number on the face of the switch, 9270 is the same on my original switch and the replacement I purchased. I believe the switch I need is Part Number: LC379407. For that one the contacts are closed until the button is pressed. I will also need to return the original switch for credit. thanks, Bruce Bakker

@BruceB That's interesting Bruce because I spoke with Lippert directly and they assured me that the Replacement Plunger Door Sensor # LC379388 was a normally closed switch so that's weird that it wouldn't be that way. The switch # LC379407 is normally open so I don't think that this would be the switch you need if you need a normally closed.

I'm not sure what 'normally closed'' is on these switches. I had the steps on my RV replaced and they worked backwards. The steps were purchased from you so I asked the question why and was told that some RV's used a normally open switch and if you put in a normally closed switch they would work correctly. That's why I asked the question. The 379388 is the same as the switch I had and hopefully the 379407 is the opposite. I believed that normally open meant that when the button is out, when the door is open, the circuit is open. That's what the 379388 is. So I have ordered a 379407 and hopefully it will be closed when the button is out. The 379388 has the same number stamped on the front, 9270, as is the one in my RV. According to the pictures the 379507 is stamped 9269. Hopefully it is different and will work. The other switch should be here by Friday and I will let you know how it works. Customer service is arranging for the return of the first switch.
