Question:
Would this kit work for my trailer? I would like to upgrade the shackles to something that I can grease. K71-449-00

Hello again Dave; the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers # K71-449-00 may fit your trailer but you will need to measure to be sure. When you replace shackle straps and equalizers you want them to match what you already have so you don't throw off the geometry of your suspension.
Measure the distance between the outer shackle bolt holes on the equalizer and then center hole to center hole on your shackle straps. The Dexter equalizer measures 7-3/4" and the shackles are 2-1/4". If that matches what you have on your trailer then this kit will work.
If you have 3-1/8" shackles I recommend getting the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers # MR76ZR. This does not include an equalizer so you would have to get a standard equalizer that matches your measurement separately. If you have a different size equalizer but 2-1/4" shackle straps you can use the # MR46ZR and then again, find a matching equalizer separately.

Hey Dave, were you able to measure your trailer’s equalizer and shackle strap spacing to see if the Dexter kit matched up? Once you confirmed those sizes, did you go with the Dexter or one of the MORryde kits? Your update could make it easier for others upgrading to greasable shackles.
