Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2011 Honda CR-V

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 09/30/2024

Question:

I have a 2011 honda CRV that i was looking to tow behind a 2023 Holiday Rambler 29m. I was looking for a list of what you would recommend. You did have an online article with most things, but there are a lot of choices. some things were included with some tow bars and other not. I was looking at roadmaster DC base plate and possible the night hawk tow bar but not sure if that one is overkill for CRV. also looking to charge as we go. Not sure on lighting system or braking system. I am planning on doing it myself. I am not a mechanic, but do well with most stuff especially with your videos. any suggestions you have would be welcome.

Hey Timothy, you are off to a great start for flat towing components for your 2011 Honda CR-V with the Roadmaster Direct Connect Base Plate Kit part # RM-521559-5 and the Roadmaster Night Hawk part # RM-676. I wouldn't say this tow bar is overkill at all and in fact I would say it's just really nice and would be easier to use.

Then for lighting you would want the part # RM-9284-2 which comes with a hitch lock as well as a storage bag for the tow bar. Then for a charge line kit you would want the part # RM-156-25.

For braking I would go with the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR if you don't want an overly involved install but it does need to be removed every time you drive the vehicle. If you prefer a permanent install option the best way to go is the Stay N Play DUO part # SM99251 which has an easier install than other permanent options and is very reliable and great performing.

Hey Timothy, how did your flat tow setup for the CR-V turn out with the Roadmaster base plate and Nighthawk tow bar? I’m curious if you went with the Patriot or the Stay N Play DUO for braking. Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar setup.
