Roof Rack Recommendation to Fit Cargo Box and Awning on a 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness

Hello I have a 2022 stock from the dealer Subaru Forester Wilderness. I am interested in the Malone cross rails. I want to mount an awning on one side. I want to mount a rooftop cargo box as well on the other side. I already have the stock side rails on the car. What cross rails should I get to ensure I can mount both items and the rails are long enough to attach the awning? Many thanks!!

Hey Kathy, thanks for reaching out!

I recommend using the 58" Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MAL84AR for your 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness as it will have enough overhang to comfortably fit and use both a cargo box and an awning.

If you don't already have an awing and a cargo box then I recommend the following:

- Rhino-Rack Sunseeker Awning # RR32133
- 11 Cu Ft Thule Force XT Sport Rooftop Cargo Box # TH6356B

These products are great mid-range options that don't break the bank but also don't give you the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality and functions. The cargo box may not allow you to open up your hatch all the way though so that's something you'll need to keep in mind. It requires 48-1/4" from where the front bar mounts back to the line in your roof where the hatch meets the roof. I know you don't have the crossbars yet, but you can guesstimate this with a tape measure by placing it close to the forward-most section of your raised rails back to the line we mentioned above.

@KathyW You're welcome! Yes, we have a variety of cargo boxes to choose from - my initial recommendation was just trying to get you the biggest option that might work. I'm linking our selection for you to filter through, but out of the available options I think you might like the Benton Cargo Box # B44FR for something with a smaller profile. I've had some hands-on experience with this box and it's pretty solid for the price-point. My only real complaint is how the mounting cables work. They are a bit difficult (but possible) to install due to their length so as long as you know that going forward you don't be surprised by anything else.

@JonP The Rhino-Rack Sunseeker Awning # RR32133 comes with everything needed to mount directly to the T-Slots on the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MAL84AR. There are Angled Up # RR32123 and Angled Down # RR32127 mounting brackets if you want more of a custom look on your vehicle, but neither is needed with this roof rack system.
