Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2007 Jeep Wrangler With Off-Road Bumper & Blue Ox Tow Bar

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/22/2024

Question:

I have a 2007 Jeep wrangler with an off-road bumper and winch that I want to make flat towable. My previous jeep already is set up for this so I just need the everything except the hitch and bars. The existing bars are a blue ox brand.

Hi Jason,

You mentioned having the tow bar and hitch, though I'm not sure if you were referring to base plates there. I'm going to assume your off-road bumper has D-rings, and if so, there are adapters you can use to connect your tow bar to, depending on the size of their openings. For that use either the Blue Ox Off-Road Bumper Adapters for Blue Ox Motorhome Mounted Tow Bars - 7/8" D-Rings # BX88357 or 1" D-Rings # BX88358.

Then you'd also need wiring, a battery disconnect, supplemental braking system, and battery charge line:

- Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

- Roadmaster Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Flat Tow Brake System - Gas # RM-766

- Motorhome With Hydraulic Brakes: Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99251
OR
- Motorhome With Air Brakes: Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System # SM99243

- Demco Towed Vehicle Battery Charge Line Kit # DM66VR

Hey Jason, how did things go getting your Wrangler set up for flat towing with the Blue Ox adapters? Your update could make it easier for others working with off-road bumpers and D-ring setups.
