Parts needed to Add 7-Way to 2024 Hyundai Tucson PHEV

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/14/2024

Question:

Hi there, I have a 2024 Tuscon plug in hybrid with an already mounted 2 trailer hitch and 4 pin trailer plug. I would like to instal a 7 pin system for trailer brakes. I have heard that the plug-in Hybrid isnt happy with any of the conversion options anectdotally. Could you please educate if this 7 pin conversion is possible and if so what parts I should purchase. Thanks for your time, cheers Roger in Kimberley, BC

Hello Roger; it will be possible to add a 7-way to your 2024 Hyundai Tucson. However, you will have to take a look at your vehicle to decide which one is right for you. If your current 4-way is plugged into the factory tow port behind the bumper and you have the factory tow package you can use the Curt # C68JR. If you do not have the tow package but have the tow port you need the Tekonsha # TK44ZR instead.

The options using the factory plug will be pretty straightforward and shouldn't have an issue since you're using the factory wiring. If you have a 4-way like the # C59236 on there installation is a little more complicated. This would require the # ETBC7 to upgrade to a 7-way. You won't be able to connect this to the PHEV battery so you will have to locate the 12V accessory battery for installation. As long as your 4-way works there is no way it would have an issue since the only thing you're really adding is the 12V power and brake output wire.

Hey Roger, how did things go with adding the 7-way wiring on your Tucson plug-in hybrid? Were you able to find the right harness for your setup? Your update could make it easier for others working with the same hybrid system.
