Do Two Speed Jacks have a Second Higher or Lower Speed than Single Speed

Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 09/13/2024

Question:

Hello, I am looking at a trailer that is a gooseneck trailer for my pick up. There are two choices one company has a single speed jack and the other company has a two speed jack The jacks are both rated for 12 K, and are the relatively standard spring loaded leg jacks, The same as what I was looking at on your site when I tried to ask this question, even though you may not be able to see what I was looking at I don’t know Anyways, what I want to know if the low speed on the two speed jack is the same as the speed on the single speed jack, or if the actual facts are That the two speed jack gives you a lower speed than the single speed jack which would mean it would be easier to crank a trailer that’s loaded. The dealership just wants to sell the $700 option, and tries to tell me that the two speed jack does go slower and low gear, but without me being able to try it, I cannot confirm this and would rather just buy a single speed jack since it’s much less fiddly to have to slide the shaft in and out while you’re cranking it because you accidentally slide it in and then you’re in the wrong gear I figured that if anybody knew it would be you guys, can you please help thank you

The second speed is going to be like a "granny low" gear that is easier to crank but requires a lot more turns to get it to move. The single speed jacks would have the higher speed of a 2 speed jack.

Hey, did the explanation about the two-speed jack’s low gear help you decide which jack to go with for your gooseneck trailer? Knowing what you chose could help others comparing single- and two-speed options. Your feedback would be great for anyone weighing the same decision.
