What To Do When A Weldnut Breaks Off In The Frame While Installing A Timbren SES
Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/11/2024 >
Question:
I purchased the Timbren SES for my 2010 Ford F150. While removing the existing bolt that holds the old factory bump stop, the bolt just spins and will not come out. Any suggestions on how to remove the old bolt? Thanks.

Hi Jay,
It sounds to me like the weldnut in the frame broke free and is allowing the bolt to spin. You're going to have to get into the frame to put pressure on the weldnut to remove the bolt. From some pictures I've seen it looks like there should be two smaller slots on the outside of the frame that you could possibly stick wrenches or a skinny pry bar in to press against the nut. If that's not an option you'd need to drill a small hole in the frame to do this.
Once you get the bolt out if you have a big enough hole you could weld the nut back in place and keep using it. If that's not an option you can tack weld a M10 nut to a metal stick that's somewhat pliable so you can slip it through a hole in the frame and have it sit over the hole so you can bolt in the Timbren SES # TFR1504D.

Hey Jay, how did things go with getting that spinning bolt out of your F150’s frame? Were you able to reach the weldnut and finish mounting the Timbren SES? Your update could make it easier for the next person tackling the same issue.
