Question:
Are non-galvanized axles suitable for boat trailers being used in a marine/saltwater environment?
asked by: Tom
Expert Reply:
You can use non-galvanized axles Tom, but we really recommend using galvanized axles. Galvanized axles, like the CE Smith Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles # CE33201GA is going to offer the appropriate corrosion resistance needed when dealing with salt water.
Standard axles, like the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles # 8327834 you were looking at will do the same job, but will corrode at a much quicker rate.

Hey Tom, did you end up going with the galvanized axle for your boat trailer? Knowing how it’s holding up in saltwater could help others choosing between galvanized and standard axles.
