Why Is The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C94NR Labeled As Class III

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/13/2024

Question:

Why is this hitch C94NR called a class III yet is only rated at 2000Lbs. Isnt Class III up to 3500lbs?

Hey Roger,

I understand the confusion about the class designation for the Curt # C94NR. Since it has a 2" receiver tube and this is only a fit for select Buick Envisions, which only have a 1,500lb towing capacity, I believe Curt only tested it up to 2,000lbs and then labeled it as a class III. Realistically it should just be class II but it seems like manufacturers have been very loose with standardized terms lately.

Hey Roger, did the explanation about Curt’s testing and labeling clear things up for you on that hitch? Knowing how that 2,000‑lb rating compares to your Buick’s towing limits could help others understand similar setups. Your feedback might make it easier for others sorting through class ratings.
