Should Wiper for RV Slide Out be Installed Upside Down

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/09/2024

Question:

I have a 2019 Coachman Chaparral 381RD - under the kitchen slide out there is a wiper, but is attached with screws. I also noticed the thicker part was doing the wiping as the slide out moved in and out, and the thinner part was what was screwed into the frame. This is opposite of what your video shows for Rubber Wiper Seal for RV Slide Out - Stick On - 15foot Long x 3inch Wide Part Number: SR29FR Is this the correct part for my RV? Should I put the self adhesive part down, and the thinner part doing the wiping? Should I go ahead and screw it in as the current one is? I have attached the pictures below Thanks Pat

Hey Pat, that is really odd that your wiper is essentially installed upside down. I wonder if the previous installer did that on purpose or did so by mistake. I would recommend installing it in the correct orientation.

Hey Pat, how did things go after reinstalling the wiper seal in the correct orientation on your Chaparral? It’d be great to know if that fixed the wiping issue you were seeing. Your update could make it easier for others working on similar slide outs.

@JamesonC - Yeah, I agreed with your prognosis and installed it the right way and it seems it eas good. I did get rid of the Chapparall - downsized to a 28 foot hitch pull...little easier to travel with. Thanks for checking i Pat
