The 2012 Honda Pilot should have been equipped with a factory trailer hitch, which is why you're unable to find an aftermarket model. Check the rear bumper fascia for a removable panel or door that is hiding the hitch receiver. Once removed, the receiver tube should be visible.
If you crawl under the vehicle and look up at the underside right behind the rear bumper, you should be able to see the hitch.
If your friend is planning on using the hitch for towing, a trailer wiring harness like # 118265 for a 7-way or # 118558 for a 4-pole connector would need to be installed. A ball mount would also be needed. Part # 2753 would likely work well, but I've linked you to an FAQ article that explains how to determine which ball mount would work best for your needs. A pin and clip like # PC3 and a trailer ball like # 63845 for a 2 inch ball or # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball would also be needed.
