Are Load Resistors Needed with the Triple LED Trailer Tail Light # CE44VR

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 07/31/2024

Question:

Want to upgrade my incandescent tail lights to these on my 2015 Itasca 28foot class C RV. They look to be a perfect size fit to my RV. To stop the hyper flash you recommend Part Number: DI34ZR load resistor kit. Do I install the load resistors at the rear of my RV wiring them to the LED tail lights or should the resistors be mounted somewhere else? i am concerned the resistors will get too hot and melt the turn signal housing or worse start a fire in the rear of my RV.

Hey Lyall, so the triple LED trailer taillight part # CE44VR is a great choice for your motorhome but it would cause hyperflashing since it's LED and what you have isn't. So what that means is you will need a load resistor setup like you mentioned.

The best way to figure out what you'll need is by using the bulb type of the turn signal circuits that are on your vehicle. It turns out that not all load resistors work for all applications and if you search for "load resistor harness" plus your bulb type on Google you'll see results for what you would need.

Hey Lyall, were you able to find the right load resistor setup for your Itasca’s LED tail lights? Knowing what worked could help others trying to stop hyperflash on similar RVs.
