Recommended Replacement Hub and Drum Assembly for Lippert 4,400 lb Axles

Updated 08/12/2024 | Published 07/20/2024

Question:

I have Lippert 4400 axles on my camper. One of my hubs blew a seal on the highway resulting in bearing failure. I want to replace the hub assembly because the outer race is badly scored. Can you help me with this effort?

Charles, for your camper with 4,400 lb axles you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-407-5UC3-EZ. This hub and drum assembly will work with 4,400 lb axles, has a 6 on 5 1/2" bolt pattern, and includes the bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, lug nuts, cotter pin, castle nut, and washers.

Thanks Bryce, The expert roadside mechanic took a grinder to my spindle. I also need to get an axle beam. What do you recommend?

@Charles Charles, you're going to need to measure your hub face to hub face and spring seat center to spring seat center inn order to get the correct sized axle. If you can let me know what that is, I'd be happy to get something for you.

@BryceD Thank you. Looking at the label… LCI35-SB-86.5-68.5-N0SP-0S-L-655-7278-30PT-3”-CAP 4400# Am I correct in assuming 86.5 is the Hub Face and 68.5 is the spring seat?

@Charles Thank you for that Charles. So yes, you are correct from what I can gather. I did some research based off of that label info, and it does look like the hub face is 86.5", and the spring seat is 68.5". With that being said, all of our axles with an 86.5" hub face measurement have a 71 1/2" spring seat. So what I recommend you do, is use a replacement axle like the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles # 8327816 and just have the spring seats re-welded to match what you have,
