Can 2011 Ford Fiesta Tow a 772-lb Tear Drop Travel Trailer
Updated 05/23/2024 | Published 05/11/2014 >
Question:
I am looking to purchase a tear trailer for my ford fiesta sedan 2011.. Its dry weight is going to be 772lbs. I was planning to purchase one of your hitches.. two questions.. I am not mechanical.. Where would you suggest I go to get it put on? and Is 772 lb too heavy for my ford sedan to haul? I am getting different max tow weights from many people some being no towing to 1,000 and/or 1,500. Any info would help. Thanks ahead.

The trailer hitch you referenced, Curt Class I hitch # C11055, is a confirmed fit for your Fiesta sedan. This hitch for your Fiesta sedan is a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch suitable for use with a hitch-mount 2-bike rack or a cargo carrier for example. Many customers do hitch installs themselves, and this requires a torque wrench, but any local auto shop should be able to do it.
I was able to find an online version of the owner's manual for the 2011 Fiesta Sedan. On page 133 Ford specifies that the 1.6-liter Ford Fiesta Sedan is not rated to tow a trailer of any size or weight.
The vehicle manufacturer always gets the final word on such matters, so unfortunately even a relatively lightweight tear drop travel trailer is not approved by Ford for towing with this vehicle.

I've towed small Uhaul trailers (4X8) loaded with goods using my 1st class UHaul hitch assembly with zero problems. Several times on Interstates as well. Just because it's not "rated" doesn't qualify nor disapprove. Check with UHaul. I still have and drive my 2011 Fiesta and it's better than ever. I keep it maintained regularly. I've seen where my same car can last up to 300,000 miles with regular maintenance.
