Question:
I have a 5th wheel with two lippert 6,000lb axles with drum/hubs. Would it be possible to replace the drum/hubs with standard idler hubs? I’d plan to upgrade to disk brakes and would like to be able to change the rotors without removing the bearings. Thank you

Hi Jacob,
Yes, you can switch to disc brakes on your 5th wheel with 6,000 lb Lippert axles. I suppose you can go to idler hubs and then get slip-on brakes but you're much better off going with a full disc brake kit as it's better quality and designed to work together. But since you asked directly about idler hubs you can do that with Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 6,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 - Galvanized # 8-213-51UC1-EZ and DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit - 12" Rotor # DE82FR.
My recommendation, however, would be to just skip the middle man entirely and go with a hub and rotor kit, the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit - 12" Hub/Rotor # DE28YR.

Hey Jacob, how did the disc brake upgrade on your 5th wheel turn out? Did the DeeMaxx hub and rotor kit give you the setup you were hoping for? Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar change.
