Is There an Advantage to Upgrading 13" Wheels to 14" Wheels
Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/26/2024 >
Question:
I have a 2011 Starcraft AR-One with 13inch wheels. The springs are riding above the axle. Is it possible to upgrade to 14inch wheels and if so what would be the advantage. I often travel on roads with 80 mph speed limits. Thanks

Hey Robert, thanks for reaching out!
As long as you'll be able to maintain 2" of sidewall to trailer frame clearance, and 4" of tire to inside of fender clearance then you can upgrade to 14" wheels.
A lot of people hype up getting larger tires and wheels but unless you're wanting a bigger difference between the tire load rating and the weight of the trailer, there isn't much of an advantage. The size different between tires that fit a 13" wheel and a 14" wheel is only about 2" overall, which means you'll only be gaining about 1" of height from just the tires.

Hey Robert, how did things turn out with the 14-inch wheel upgrade on your Starcraft trailer? Did the extra clearance and height make any noticeable difference on those higher-speed roads? Your update could make it easier for others thinking about the same change.
