Can The Dexter Brake Actuator with Manual Lockout # T63FR Be Used With Disc Brakes

Updated 06/10/2024 | Published 06/09/2024

Question:

Can the T63FR be used for disc brakes without changing the master cylinder? Will it work without changing the master cylinder? If not then I need an actuator with a2 ball with a manual lockout for DISC brakes!

Hi Shane,

The Dexter Brake Actuator with Manual Lockout # T63FR would not be able to build up enough pressure to activate your disc brakes and would require a master cylinder replacement that's compatible with disc brakes. The options we offer in this category would either come with an electric lockout and without but there unfortunately aren't any with a manual lockout option. You could go with the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # DM62VR and use the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036 to get the signal from the reverse lights to lockout the actuator.

Can you just change out the master cylinder?

@ShaneS Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's a compatible replacement cylinder but Dexter does offer another actuator that we don't carry yet that is designed for disc brakes and has a manual lockout option. I'm working on getting it added to our selection and then you should be good to go.
