Updated 06/12/2024 | Published 06/02/2024

Question:

I just installed my unit everything runs great but I noticed it will stop at times for about 15 to 20 seconds before starting back up is that normal ?

Hey Keith,

The 15 to 20 second delay is likely just the Advent Air Low Profile RV Air Conditioner for Carrier Setup # ASA38YR trying to communicate with the controller from your Carrier system. When mixing systems there can be a delay in communication. It could also indicate that the unit isn't receiving enough power to kick on and tries to start, can't, builds up energy, and then kicks on. Did you install the included start capacitor to help ease the load on start up? An electrician can check to see if a lack of power is your issue or if it's just a delay in communication.

Yes I did install the extra capacitor. After running for about an hour at times it would turn off for exactly 25 seconds and then jump back on other than that everything seems to be fine. I just wasn't sure was it designed to do that or not. It starts up just fine.

@Keith It's most likely a communication delay then and would just be the new norm unless you replace the air distribution box/controller with an Advent Air one.

@Keith The air distribution box is the box inside the trailer on the ceiling and will typically have vents and some will come with louvers that you can close to force air through a duct. The controller is typically just a metal box with a ton of wires coming out of it and is the brains of the system. These can be either mounted to the air distribution box or in some rare cases mounted inside the rooftop condenser unit. I've attached a couple pictures above showing the air distribution box and controller.
