Will this hub fit on a 3 5/8” long spindle? It takes L44649 bearings. 5 on 4.5. The total length of the hub I’m trying to replace is 3 1/2”.

Art, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-258-5UC1-EZ is not going to work with your L44649 bearings, unfortunately. Instead, you're going to want to use the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # 8-259-5UC1 instead.
This idler hub will work with your L44649 bearings, has a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern, and will also work with 2,000 lb axles.
