Recommended 2200lb Axle That Uses 3500lb Hubs and Bearings

Updated 07/01/2025 | Published 03/22/2021

Question:

Hi! Just wondering if your dexter axle #T20BTR-EZ-7258 will work with any of the 3500 lb hubs? Interested in running 235/75r15 all terrain tires and just want to make sure I can use a beefier bearing!

I may have another option for you, but the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles - 72" Long - 2,200 lbs # T20BTR-EZ-7258 you were looking at uses inner and outer bearing # L44649 which is used for 2000lb hubs like the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 # 8-258-5UC1-EZ.

If you would like to use 3500lb hubs I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Spindle w/Brake Flange - Regular Tires - 2,200 lbs # ASR1THDS01 which has the same 2200lb rating, but uses the # L68149 and # L44649 which will allow you to use the larger 3500lb hubs you are wanting such as the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-35-G-EZ-K.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

My 2015 Flagstaff 21FRBS travel trailer has dual Dexter Torflex axles with 2200# labels on the axles. I am currently going through the brakes and I expected to find the 7" x 1.25" brakes, but I found it has 10" x 2.25" 3500 hubs, drums and brakes. Was pleasantly surprised.

@Robert That's really interesting. We have some Timbren axle less kits that are rated as "heavy duty" that the only difference is the spindle is uprated to the next higher capacity so I wonder if it's something like that. This is really good to know though.
