Question:
I have a 1989 390v Ranger boat trailer w/disc brakes, my master cylinder is bad. Can you tell me if the titan model 60 you have will fit? the only difference I see is mine has a small fitting on lid with vaccum looking line going to a solenoid.this is my first trailer w/brakes. I think the solenoid is for backing up hill. Please let me know, thanks

Expert Reply:
The solenoid on your boat trailer surge coupler is indeed there to allow you to back up the trailer without engaging the trailer brakes. The solenoid installs in-line between the master cylinder and the trailer's disc brake lines and closes when 12V power is applied, typically by tapping into the tow vehicle reverse light circuit, to allow for reversing the trailer without the disc brakes engaging.
In order to find a suitable replacement master cylinder for your trailer you will need to know the manufacturer and model number of your surge coupler. This is usually either stamped into the actuator or indicated on a sticker.
For reference I have linked you to our main page for all disc brake actuators with electric lockout.
