Solution for Needing Longer Extension with Recurve WD System to Allow Tailgate to Open
Updated 05/15/2024 | Published 05/07/2024 >
Question:
Hello. Hoping you guys can help. Im trying to solve the tailgate not opening all the way when my travel trailer is on issue. It hits just a piece of the handle on the tongue jack. Its a 4000lb trailer with a f150 3.5. I have Recurve weight distribution 1000. Its way overkill for the trailer so Im wondering if a small hitch extension would work to give me the clearance? tongue jack with a side handle wont work because the jack is centered between a Jack-it bike rack. Any help on solving this issue would be appreciated. Thanks. Branden

Hey Branden, I have a great solution. So what you'll want to do is go with a longer shank for your Recurve WD system like the part # EQ90-02-4500 which will give you the extension you need to allow your tailgate to open without hitting the tailgate.
Extensions don't work as they aren't rated for use with WD systems. The shank is the same design as what the Recurve uses.

That looks like the perfect option. Can it be used in both the up and down position? Also, I'll need to get longer safety chains (which are already to short.) What is the best option for this and how do I measure for the correct length? Thanks again! Branden
