Why Does Trailer Wiring Kit Have to Run Wire to Battery Directly

Question:
On the power modules for the trailer wiring kits, why wouldnt you connect the power wire to a switched connection instead of directly to the battery causing a possibility of current draw.

The reason the trailer wiring harnesses that have powered modules like the # 118551 run a wire up to the vehicle battery directly and not to an "easier" power source is because this protects the delicate wiring of your vehicle from shorts. If a short in the trailer wiring was connected to a different power source it potentially can damage that circuit whereas if it goes straight to the battery there's no risk of your vehicle wiring getting damaged.
