Troubleshooting Power Loss to Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty on 2013 GMC Sierra 1500
Updated 04/28/2021 | Published 04/27/2021 >
Question:
I had this brake controller installed on a 2013 GMC sierra crew cab 4 wheel drive last October. 3 days ago while towing it lost all power and never came back on. I suspected a blown fusewhy it would blow I dont know I could not locate a fuse for the controller so am taking it back to the installer. When I spoke to a RV repair guy he said all controllers should be wired directly to the battery. Question Is there another reason there is no power to the controller? Should it be wired directly to the battery with a 30 amp fuse Should the controller be secure mounted to the vehicle the control module was tired down with plastic ties Is there a warranty. I believe I purchased this in September last year Thanks in advance

On your 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 you will need to check the engine compartment fuse panel. There is a regular fuse in slot 6 and a J-Case Fuse in slot 63 that power the brake controller.
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR is perfectly fine being wired up to the factory harness and does not need a dedicated wire ran to the battery.
With the control module having the accelerometer it is best to have it secured as tightly as possible to ensure that you get accurate braking. This does not have to do with the power but instead the functionality of the brake controller inertial sensor.
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty carries a 2 year warranty against manufacturer defects.
