Troubleshooting No Power at 2024 Cadillac XT4 OEM Trailer Plug

Updated 01/28/2025 | Published 11/19/2023

Question:

I have the 2024 XT4. It does not have the tow package but it does have the trailer connection in middle if bumper under the facia. I put a test light on contacts for the plug but it has no power. Do I have to bring the car to Cadillac to have it programmed or is there another way to power it up?

The plug you found at the back of your 2024 Cadillac XT4 should match up with the Curt T-Connector # C44FR and will only show power when the running lights are on, the turn signals are used, or you are pressing the brake pedal. If you're testing it without using any of those functions on your vehicle then that would explain why you aren't seeing power at that connector.

If you did use those functions and you didn't see power then the next thing to check are the fuses related to the trailer functions. According to the online owner's manual you should be looking at the following in your fuse compartment box:

- Fuse locations 54, 55, 56, 67, 78

Is this possible you absolutely need a connected trailer to have power to rear plug. ?

@Jean-philippeG That is a possibility, yes. We've seen some of the newer trucks use this kind of technology as well.

@JonG I initially connected the trailer wiring harness to the factory harness and had no lights. The trailer lights worked with the previous vehicle (2009 Cadillac XT5). As soon ans my dealer saw the after market installation they had their excuse for not doing anything. I am disappointed that you experts that sell these components have no communication resources with auto manufacturers to resolve this problem instead of just throwing BS that makes no sense. Do some work and help us out.

@Dennis I'd be lying if I said I knew everything about all vehicles, but I'd also be lying if I said we never reach out to manufacturers about this. I've personally sat on the phone with a manufacturer for an hour one time to try to figure something out for one of my answer pages but the conversation was no more productive than what you all have gotten from your dealer questioning. What we've found in our years of experience is that the manufacturers rarely want to help out companies like us because there's no profit in it for them - it's just them wasting their time. They usually work harder for people like you who have actually purchased their vehicle because they are trying to retain a customer. I try my best to help but sometimes the dealerships have to take over because they have contact with the factories that actually made the vehicle. In your case, you might see if they would be willing to hook up an OEM connector to your vehicle to see if they can replicate the result. The aftermarket harness is just passing power through it so it shouldn't be damaging any factory wiring. I don't have access to a 2024 Cadillac XT4 so I can't replicate anything on my end.

I have the same problem. I purchased your 4 pin trailer connector for my XT4, installed it and hooked up my trailer, started car turned on running lights. Nothing working on trailer. Left the car running lights on and checked the pins on the factory plug. There is no +12 for any function, running lights, stop, turn. Checked appropriate fuses etc. they are OK. Please advise.

@Dennis If you have a circuit tester, I recommend using it to check the functions on the OEM plug directly. It could be that you need a local Cadillac dealer to flash the system to get it all working properly.

@JonG, That's what I told you I already did. I will take the car to my dealer. Thanks.

@Dennis I have the same problem with my 2024 XT4 Sport and took it in to my dealer for a required flash and did not fix the problem. All fuses referenced were checked and all were good. I did not have an OEM towing package and went with aftermarket....there is no power to the OEM plug...my dealer has been zero help because I do not have the OEM towing package so they do not guarantee that the OEM plug will even work.
