Troubleshooting a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 With a Check Trailer Wiring Issue
Updated 11/06/2023 | Published 11/04/2023 >
Question:
I have a 2015 Chevy 2500 and it keeps telling me check trailer wiring and then says trailer connected immediately after. It will keep doing that back and forth while I’m hooked up to my utility trailer. The trailer is a 7 way plug. It will also blow a fuse in my truck every time I hook up. I believe there is a grounding issue somewhere. Weather it’s in the truck or the trailer. But I have a trailer dealership work on the trailer and they put a new ground on the trailer and checked all wiring and they said everything is fine with the trailer. Where do I go from here to try and fix the problem ?

If you're still getting a check trailer wiring message, then there has to still be short somewhere in your vehicle. If they fixed the ground and wiring for the trailer then that's only solving one half of the problem. The other half is with your vehicle, and since you're still getting the error we can confidently say that it's your Chevy's wiring that the problem.
So, to find out what's going on you're going to need to go over your wiring and look for any broken, crimped, or damaged wires. When the problem wire or wires are found, you'll need to replace them and check to see if the error continues.
