Question:

Hello - can you look into a match for my boat trailer? It is a 1988 Glastron boat and trailer to match has a Shelby 5405, 1400 lb winch. I would like a heavier duty if available but this one is just stripped out and not functioning. Thank you!

I can definitely point you in the right direction of a new winch. Unfortunately Shelby is no longer in business, so a direct replacement is out of the question.

That being said we have come across these Shelby 5405 winches before, and have found the Dutton-Lainson # DL15303 to be an extremely similar 1,400 lb winch. This is a single speed zinc plated winch designed for marine use. It can be used with a 1/4' wire rope like the # DL24100, or with a 2" wide trap like the # DL24260. Plus Dutton-Lainson winches are all made here in the USA.

If you want to go a bit heavier duty we do have a similar 1,800 lb winch # DL14627. There is even a 3,200 lb version # DL15440 if you want to go big. If you go with a bigger winch, you will want to get a stronger cable like the # DL24104, which is 3,500 lb rated.
