Is there some kind of adjustment to the slide component to alleviate the rough slide operation.

There isn't anything you can really adjust for smoother sliding operation of your B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3400-5W, but you can wipe down the slider tubes with a damp rag and then spray on some dry silicone # RM-747 to lubricate the tubes without attracting dirt and debris, which is probably what is causing the bind that you're currently dealing with.
