Can you replace a Shelby 5128 coupler with another to accept a 2 inch ball? Trailer channel is 2 inches wide with bolts 2 1/4 on center.

Expert Reply:
Yes, but all of the the couplers for 2" wide channels and 2" hitch balls use a different bolt spacing than the 2-1/4" spacing your Shelby 5128 coupler uses.
However you can still use a 2" ball coupler like # DL13835 which has a 3" bolt spacing, but you'll just need to drill holes as needed.
If drilling holes is a no-no for you, then you'll need to stick with your existing coupler, or replace it with another 1-7/8" coupler like # CT-2001-Z which uses the same 2-1/4" spacing as your current coupler.
