Is there Any Trimming of the Bumper Required for Curt Hitch 11020 on a 2008 Smart ForTwo
Updated 03/23/2010 | Published 03/20/2010 >
Question:
Is this hitch DOT approved? I assume so but did not see it mentioned anywhere? does the rear body panel have to be notched to make room, or does it fit below? Thanks.

When installing Curt hitch, # 11020, the body on your 2008 Smart ForTwo, like the bumper and fascia, will not have to be trimmed or modified for this hitch. I have included a link to the instructions below. Please note that this hitch will not fit Brabus models.
The standard for trailer hitches is not DOT, but various other agencies, among them, the SAE J684 standards and V5 ratings, are two that Curt adheres to. I spoke with my contact at Curt to be certain and he did state that their hitches are approved and are legal and safe according to the agencies listed above.
