Question:
Have 99 dodge ram 1500 5.9L. need to buy proportional brake controller to pull 6000 lb rv. Truck has factory installed 7 way and there are 2 wiring harnesses up under the dash. One is white and squarish, and the other is blue and rectangle. I have pics of them I can send. The other day I was looking at controllers and a bunch came up, now only a dexter?

There is definitely not just a Dexter brake controller for your 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with the factory 7-way, and in regards to the correct brake controller port, it is the blue rectangular shaped one that is correct. I have added a photo for you of the port on a '99 Ram which shows what it looks like.
For the brake controller I highly recommend an option from Tekonsha, and the part numbers for the controller and adapter that fit your truck are the following:
- Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN Trailer Brake Controller # TK63VR
- Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Dodge # 3020-P
I really like the BRAKE-EVN # TK63VR because it is the best overall value for a trailer brake controller; the reason for that is its unique combination of quality and cost-effectiveness. The BRAKE-EVN is going to give you smooth braking, is simple to use, and its display is easy to read. For a combination of quality, reliability, and price, there really isn't a better option for your '99 Ram.
