Question:

Does the iPhone app need to be on and active the entire time youre trailering a boat/RV? If you go to another app or it goes to sleep, does it lose connection I suppose you would lose the ability to quickly hit apply the trailer brake manually. If you would lose bluetooth connection while trailering for whatever reason, what happens? Thank you!

Great questions!

The Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 will operate using the settings that you chose in the iPhone app regardless of whether you have the app pulled up or not so you can jump from one app to the next or even turn your phone off without it affecting the braking performance of your trailer. I do recommend leaving your phone alone while driving though.

I like to recommend the Manual Override Button # C83HR for the Echo Wireless controller because it means you can get your settings all figured out and then leave your phone alone and still have access to that manual override when needed. This installs with a double-sided adhesive pad so it can be placed basically anywhere that doesn't have fabric!
