Availability of Smaller Tire to Lower Trailer With 205/75R15 Tires

Updated 08/09/2022 | Published 08/05/2022

Question:

Hi folks. Can you recommend a lower profile tire than an ST 205 75 R15? I would like to bring the trailer down 3/4 to 1 inch and don’t want to mess with the suspension. Long story. Thanks.

If you want to lower your trailer by 1" you will need a tire with an outer diameter that is 2" less than your current tire. An ST205/75R15 tire like the # AM10244 has an outer diameter of 27.3". In order to reduce the size enough you will have to use a 13" tire like the # AM31991.

The outer diameter of this tire is 24.1" so it is 3.2" smaller when compared to the 205/75R15 tire so it will drop your trailer 1.6". You will also need to make sure the capacity can still handle your trailer. These are load range D tires that have a maximum load of 1,650 lbs at 70 psi.

If you don't want to lower it that much, you could also go with a 14" tire like the # AM32161. The only problem with a 14" tire is that it won't take you low enough. The outer diameter of this tire is 26.3" so it is only going to lower your trailer .5".

Unfortunately there is no middle ground for the sizes so you will have to choose between sitting a little higher than you want or lower. Also, I chose wheels for the wheel and tire combo assuming you currently have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. If you happen to have a 6 on 5-1/2 that would also require swapping out your hubs so the smaller wheels could fit.
