Is There An Easy Way To Determine If I Have A Gen 1 or Gen 2 Sidewinder Pin Box
Updated 10/25/2022 | Published 07/07/2022 >
Question:
Hello, I see there is a new generation of Sidewinder pin boxes now and there are some fit differences when it comes to hitches and wedges depending on which one you have. I just bought a trailer with a Sidewinder but I have no idea which generation it is - is there a simple way to tell? Serial number etc? Thanks.

This is a great question and there actually is a really quick and easy way to tell if you have the current (Gen 2) version of the Reese Sidewinder like # RP34FR or an older Gen 1 design.
All you have to do is look at the pin box itself and find the Reese brand decal on the unit. The older versions all have square or rectangular decals while the current generation uses a circular decal. I have attached a picture of the current Gen 2 unit below so you can see the round decal used.
