Installing 7-Way Trailer Connector on 1995 Japanese Market Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

Hello, I have a JDM vehicle, a 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. It does not have any factory installed towing wiring harness of any kind. I would like to install a 7 blade towing connector to it. I understand that I will need to identify and tap the wires for the turn signals, reverse. I have two questions: Should I use a 4 pin to 7 blade adapter or is there a product that comes ready to go for a 7 blade connector? Second question, from reading other questions here it seems that for the 12v power lead on tbe 7 blade I should run a wire directly from the positive terminal on the battery into the wiring harness, with a fuse in line. What connector should I use for attaching to the terminal and what fuse? Are there any other methods for running the power line? Thanks so much.

To add a 7-way to your Japanese Domestic Market 1995 Land Cruiser Prado, you'll first need a functioning 4 pole trailer connector. You can install one using part # C59496 which would need to be hardwired into the existing taillight wiring harnesses.
The # C59496 taillight converter harness includes a circuit tester and all the wire, fuse holder, fuse and hardware needed to complete the installation. While a helper activates each turn signal function, you can use the tester to probe the wires in the taillight harness to determine which wire carries which function. The harness would install as follows:
• White wire grounds to vehicle frame
• Yellow wire taps into left turn signal circuit
• Green wire taps into right turn signal circuit
• Brown wire taps into running lamp circuit
• Red tire taps into brake lamp circuit
• Black wire is extended and attaches to positive battery terminal via fuse holder and hardware included with kit.
Once the 4 pole is installed, if your trailer doesn't have electric brakes, and you have no future plans to tow a trailer with electric brakes, you can use # ETBC7 which includes the adapter to convert the 4 pole to a 7-way, plus all the hardware, wire and circuit breakers needed to run the charge line .
If your trailer has electric brakes, or you could possibly tow an electric brake equipped trailer at some point in the future, you'll want to do the full install which includes an output circuit for a brake controller. If that's the case, you'd use the # ETBC7 kit.
You will want to attach the 12V supply feeds for the trailer connector and for the charge line directly to the positive battery terminal, and not any other power source. Installing the supply directly to the battery provides a clean, uninterrupted power supply that's completely isolated from the vehicle's electrical system and will isolate the vehicle from any short circuits that could occur in the trailer wiring.
