Troubleshooting Tow Bar Cable S-Hooks Bending the Hitch Pin
Published 05/25/2022 >
Question:
The safety cables on the tow bar hitch bent the 5/8 in lock end of the hitch pin.Do you think a new longer hitch pin would prevent this from happening,or do you have a better solution? Thank You

I have a solution for you, but I do not think getting a longer hitch pin is the answer. From the picture you provided, it looks like it is the S-hook of the safety cable that is getting behind your hitch pin and the pushing into the hitch lock side causing it to bend.
You can use the RoadMaster 8" Safety Cable Extensions # RM-910648-8 to extend the S-hooks further away from the hitch pin. You would feed one of the loops through the attachment hole on you hitch and then loop it back around and attach the S-hook from your safety cables through both of the loops (repeat for both sides). So essentially the blue part of the extension cable would be what is riding in the attachment hole of your hitch.
